Alex Geringer ’02 Completes NY Ironman In 11:45

Soccer is a tough sport. But it’s nothing like an Ironman competition.

On Saturday — in the 1st- ever Ironman US Championship — Alex Geringer ’02 swam 2.4 miles in the Hudson River; biked 112 miles on the Palisades Parkway, then ran 26.2 miles from New Jersey to Riverside Park.

His times of 51:46, 6:22.45 and 4:14.59 respectively — totaling just 11 hours, 45 minutes and 46 seconds — place him 528th out of over 2,500 competitors. In his 1st-ever Ironman, Alex placed near the top 20% overall.

Alex Geringer ’02 — tired and proud at the finish line.

He spent 8 months training for the event. He did 10 to 20 hours of cardio per week, and “logged more hours than I ever imagined in the pool and on my bike.”

He raced to raise money for Team Continuum. The organization provides immediate and vital non-medical assistance to cancer patients and their families experiencing disruption, hardship and uncertainty in their lives. Team Continuum also provides funding to healthcare facilities and foundations, helping cancer patients in areas of care, communication and educational services.

Alex pledged to raise $5,000. Contributions are still welcome; click here to help.

Congratulations, Alex — on your athletic accomplishment and your great service to others!
