Silent Auction Helps Top Of The Hill Team

Yesterday’s Alumni Day included the Staples-Wilton soccer game, an alumni-and-kids game on Loeffler Field, and a cookout at Dan Donovan ’82’s house.

In addition to great family fun (and reminiscing) at Donovans’, a silent auction raised a few hundred dollars for the Top of the Hill Team — Staples boys soccer’s booster club.

The fiercest bidding — and highest priced item — was a signed boot from Landon Donovan. The winning bidder was Johnny Donovan (no relation, we’re told).

Kyle Martino ’99’s signed boot was won by Mike Brown ’83. Mike also won a signed copy of Dan Woog’s new book, We Kick Balls: True Stories from the Youth Soccer Wars.

Other silent auction items included wine, donated by Seth Sholes ’77 (won by Jono Sollinger ’86 and Doug Fincher ’82), and a framed photo of Loeffler Field, donated by Carl McNair P’09, ’10, ’12, ’15 (won by Stuart McCarthy ’79).

Patrick Donovan poses proudly with Landon (no relation) Donovan’s signed boot.
