Alums Meet At US-Germany Game, Plan Preston Hirten Tournament

It was business, pleasure, remembrance and a great reunion last weekend in Washington, DC.

Nicky Hoberman, Matt Lamb and Dave Sharpe — Staples ’07 — joined former University of Mary Washington players, and Preston Hirten’s family, at the US-Germany match. (The Americans won that weird affair, 4-3.)

The group celebrated Preston’s birthday, and made plans for the Preston Memorial Tournament (Saturday, July 6, 11 a.m. at Wakeman). Slots are still open; anyone interested in entering a team (high school, college and older) should email matthew.c.lamb@gmail.com.

Thanks to another ’07 player — Matt Sych, who works in soccer marketing — the Hirtens were on the field during warm-ups. They look forward to the Memorial Weekend, which will draw Preston’s high school, club and college friends — and many others — together once again.
