Bruno Guiduli ’22 Says: Help The Macalester White Squirrels!

Bruno Guiduli — tri-captain of the 2021 state semifinalist Staples soccer team — writes:

I hope you will support the White Squirrels, my club soccer team at Macalester College, during this year’s Give to Mac Day.

When I arrived at Macalester in Minnesota, there was no club soccer team. I felt very homesick, and lacked a purpose. I even considered transferring to be closer to home.

But last fall, everything changed. With the help of some friends, I founded the school’s first-ever men’s club soccer team.

In that moment, I finally discovered my purpose at Macalester, and became part of a community through which I have met some amazing people.

Macalester has truly become my home, and through club soccer I have shared countless laughs and unforgettable memories. I cannot express how grateful I am for this community, and I am so excited for what is in store when I return from my studies abroad next fall.

I am thrilled to announce we are joining a D1 league, and are growing quickly in popularity and ambition. The future looks bright!

Now it’s time for the full pitch. (If my personal version already got you on board, please scroll down to the link below. Thank you!)

After an incredibly successful preliminary year, this fall marked the first official season of men’s club soccer as a recognized club sport. We finished 5-1, including huge victories over rivals Carleton and St. Olaf, as well as historic wins against St. Thomas and the UNW Development Team.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible support we received from donors last year, which helped fund our away games in Northfield, the purchase of new jerseys, and better equipment for training.

For the fall 2025 season, the Macalester White Squirrels have been accepted into the Upper Midwest Collegiate Soccer League, a Division 1 league that brings a higher level of competition and exciting new opportunities for the club. We are so proud of the community we have built here at Macalester, and we cannot wait to take it to the next level.

We are also incredibly excited to welcome a new member to the Macalester soccer community: the Clementines (women’s/gender-inclusive club soccer). The 2 clubs have already hosted multiple events together. Our favorite was the Club Soccer Halloween Costume Game, where both teams mixed together for a Ghosts vs. Vampires showdown and competed for candy.

Your support will help both the White Squirrels and the greater Macalester soccer community as we continue to grow and excel. Interest in club soccer at Macalester has grown dramatically since our founding. With a new league, rising participation and extended travel opportunities — like a potential natioanl tournament in Arizona — our expenses have grown as well.

We hope to raise around $3,000 to help cover extended travel, new equipment, league fees and tournament costs. Any contribution is greatly appreciated. We thank you for your continued support of our growing soccer community!

Donations are accepted through Saturday (April 5). Click here to help!

Thank you everyone, for your contributions! I cannot wait to be back in Westport for a bit this summer.

Best Wishes,
Bruno
