Dan Donovan ’82 Profiled In Lehigh Alumni Magazine

The former Staples and Lehigh University captain earned a full page profile in a recent Alumni Bulletin.

Dan and Nicole Donovan — hosts of Staples 50th celebration social gathering.

The story — headlined “Making Medical Publishing More Accessible” — profiled Dan’s work as founder and president of Envision Pharma.  The company assists life science companies and their academic partners with publishing medical research.

Envision Pharma was cited as the best Connecticut company to work for in 2007.  Pharma Voice called Dan “1 of the top 100 most inspiring people in the past 2 years.”  He has also earned praise in the life sciences and health care services field for his “inventiveness and impassioned stance on best industry practices.”

Dan studied finance at Lehigh.  He and his brother Doug ’79 played 1 season of Lehigh soccer together.

Dan’s route to Envision Pharma began with Pfizer, which he interned for while at Lehigh.  He joined the company’s sales force after graduation, then moved into market research and international marketing.  In 1997 he moved to Belgium to become the European director and team leader of the cardiovascular portfolio, which included Lipitor.

In 1998 — frustrated that study results were managed “through sticky notes and hand-scrawled memos” — Dan developed Datavision, the 1st software application develooped to aid the process of medical publication.  The software helps companies implement and track publication programs, ensure compliance and transparency, manage finances, and easily share knowledge inside and outside the company.

Dan co-founded Envision Pharma in 2001.  New regulations have made Datavision extremely valuable.  At the same time the company branched into other technologies and services, including publication planning and science writing.  Dan advocates for ethics in publishing and speaks frequently at trade conferences, urging openness about biases.

In 2008 Dan and his partner sold Envision Pharma to United Biosource Corporation, joining with a company that provides produces and services to the life science business worldwide.

In his spare time, Dan is an avid Staples soccer supporter — helping each year as a tryout evaluator — while managing to spend quality time with his wife Nicole and their 6 children.
