Obituary: Robert Simonton Sr. P’81, ’85

Robert Simonton Sr. — father of Bob Simonton ’81 and Scott Simonton ’85 — died last month in North Carolina.

A pole vaulter at Amherst College, and a chemical engineering  graduate of Columbia University, Simonton was a sergeant in the infantry medical corps, stationed in Alaska during the Korea War.

He then graduated from Syracuse University College of Law. Simonton worked for several pharmaceutical firms. In 1975 he and his family moved to Westport. He was a regular on The Hill while his sons played Staples soccer.

He volunteered with many educational and civic organizations. He was an avid golfer, skier and tennis player.

Donations in his honor may be sent to the Manlius Pebble Hill School, 5300 Jamesville Rd., Dewitt, NY 13214.
